Opening a Bank Account
Verification of Identity and AddressThe Bank will undertake an electronic identity and address check as part of the account opening process. The Bank reserves the right to request original documentary proof to support an application where necessary. This should be one item from the Identification List (List A) and one from the Address Verification List (List B) detailed below. Please note that the same item cannot be used to confirm both your name and address.

Address Verification (List A)
- Current UK or EU photo-card driving licence
N.B. New style provisional is acceptable - Current full UK driving licence (old version)
N.B. Old style provisional driving licence is not acceptable - EEA member state identity card
- Northern Ireland voter’s card
- Notification letter from the Benefits Agency confirming the right to benefits
- Inland Revenue tax notification correspondence (not P45 or P60)
- Bank, Building Society or Credit Card account statement dated within last six months* (internet statements not acceptable)
- Utility bill dated within last three months
N.B. Mobile Telephone bills are not acceptable. Internet access bills not acceptable. - Utility statement, or a certificate from a supplier of utilities confirming the arrangement to pay for the services on pre-payment terms dated within the last twelve months
N.B. Mobile Telephone statements or certificates are not acceptable. Internet statements are not acceptable. - Local Council/Housing Association rent book/card or tenancy agreement
- Local Authority tax bill for current year
Identity Verification (List B)
- Current UK or EU photo-card driving licence
N.B. New style provisional is acceptable - EEA member state identity card
- Northern Ireland voter’s card
- Current signed passport
- Firearms/Shotgun Certificate
- Blue disabled driver’s pass
- Residence permit issued by Home Office to EU Nationals on sight of own country passport
- National Insurance Card, if accompanied by a recent P60 or payslip which also shows the NI number and name
- Police Warrant Card
- HM Customs & Excise Card
- Inland Revenue 714 card with photo and signature
- Letter confirming identity of customer from: Doctor/ Solicitor / Minister / Social Worker / Hostel Manager
Additional Documents Acceptable for Students
- Grant letter from an LEA
- Recognised travel pass bearing photo and signature
Additional Documents Acceptable for under 20’s
- National Insurance Card which bears a signature strip
- Recognised travel pass bearing photo and signature
Additional Documents Acceptable for under 18’s
- Birth certificate - full or abbreviated
- Medical card
- Recognised travel pass bearing photo and signature
- Young Scot Card
*Not acceptable if issued by Airdrie Savings Bank
